CURVAEQUILIBRIO

Curvaequilibrio consists of an installation made up of recycled plastic containers, an electric movement sensor and motor, water and clay from El Forat de Can Fatjó, a Sant Cugat del Valles quarry belonging to the Serra de Collserola. We can see these objects hanging from the ceiling in a perfect balance, their contents are aligned with each other creating a level line of sight. This balance is punctually interrupted by the public, who interacts voluntarily or involuntarily with a motion sensor, altering the static presence of the installation. After a while, the installation recovers its original balance.

The result of this intervention allows us to contextualize the current aspect of the landscape and the extractive practices of its past together with excavating machines that alter the topography of the terrain. In the words of the curator Christian Alonso, curator of the exhibition 'Polítiques del Sòl', "Eduardo reconstructs an anatomy of neo-extractivism through sculptural and videographic practices. Starting from an expanded notion of extractivism, at the same time environmental, social and mental, where data mining (the so-called «data-mining») is related to hydraulic fracturing («fracking») and the deregulation of the most basic rights (housing, health, education), the project aims to make those molecular forces perceptible that control, privatize and commodify life itself. Curvaequilibrio consiste en una instalación compuesta por recipientes reciclados de plástico, un motor y sensor de movimiento eléctrico, agua y arcilla de El Forat de Can Fatjó, una cantera de Sant Cugat del Valles perteneciente a la Serra de Collserola. Podemos observar estos objetos colgados del techo en un perfecto equilibrio, sus contenidos están alineados entre si creando una linea visual nivelada. Este equilibrio se interrumpe puntualmente por el publico, quien interactua de manera voluntaria o involuntaria con un sensor de movimiento alterando la presencia estatica de la instalación. Pasado un tiempo, la instalación recupera su equilibrio original.

El resultado de esta intervención nos permite contextualizar el actual aspecto del paisaje y las practicas extractivistas de su pasado junto a maquinas excavadoras que alteran topografíafia del terreno. En palabras del comisario Christian Alonso, comisario de la exposición 'Polítiques del Sòl', "Eduardo reconstruye una anatomía del neoextractivismo por medio de prácticas escultóricas y videográficas. Partiendo de una noción expandida del extractivismo, a la vez medioambiental, social y mental, donde la minería de datos (la denominada «data-mining») se relaciona con la fracturación hidráulica («fracking») y con la despossessión de los derechos más básicos (vivienda, sanidad, educación), el proyecto se propone hacer perceptibles aquellas fuerzas moleculares que controlan, privatizan y mercantilizan la vida misma. El epicentro se sitúa al agujero de Can Fatjó dels Aurons, una argilera explotada desde los años sesenta por la fabricación de materiales de construcción, de donde se han extraído más de tres millones de toneladas de tierra. Después de que el intento de transformar la mina en un vertedero de residuos de ecoparque acabara truncado por la lucha de unos vecinos y vecinas que ya sufren las desastrosas consecuencias del vertedero Elena, la empresa Puigfel incumple la obligación de restaurar la argilera con tierras limpias.
